Project Description

The month of Ramadhaan was approaching and SRF were made aware of the desperate need for clean water in Gambia. Aiming to help a population which included approximately 90% Muslims, SRF built a water well in the "Soma" community. This is a very poor community of Muslim settlers who are mostly involved in subsistence farming and fishing. They lack basic social amenities such as clean drinking water, healthcare, housing and education.

Most of the people in this this community are women who are widows and children. Often, the men die young as they try to cross into dangerous areas in search of trade and a better life for their families. There is also a high-death rate due to water-borne diseases.

Al-hamdulilah, SRF built the water well in time for Ramadhaan so the clean water can benefit approximately 22 thousand people.
