2 WATER WELLS BUILT. JANUARY 2014.
Project Description
This project involved building 2 Water Wells in IMO State, East of Nigeria where a number of wells are required for 6 big communities. The wells were built in 2 villages, Obioca village and Umukabia village and the distances between them is 14km. The needy people in these areas included women and children who before SRF arrived had to travel kilometres just to get clean drinking water. In the scorching heat it was difficult to walk long distances therefore the people used to settle for dirty water and this resulted in very poor malnutrition and a high level of infant deaths. Our volunteer who previously visited these areas couldn’t get access to clean water to drink themselves and had to spend the whole day without water until they left the area.
To shed more light on the situation of these people prior to SRF building wells was the local Masjid did not have enough water therefore Muslims had to come to the Masjid with wudhu or bring a little can of water with them. |
Al-hamdulilah within 4 days of launching this appeal SRF raised the target of £5,000 to build 2 Water Wells in the above villages and save lives by providing clean water to thousands of people, inshaAllah. To ensure 100% of the donations were used for the project, the transfer fees to send the money were taken from our General Fund. This is what '100% Donation Policy' means to SRF.
Al-hamdulilah, within a month of raising the target we received news from our team in Nigeria that the Water Wells have been completed and the poor and needy people from surrounding villages were filling buckets of clean water and taking them home. WATCH THE VIDEO! |
